Sweet Honeysuckle Micro-Farm
Goat Milk Herd-Share
Sweet Honeysuckle Micro-Farm is the proud steward to a small and sweet goat herd who are beloved and integral members of our working farm. Our approach and philosophy toward our animal husbandry is one of providing a caring and humane existence yet the most natural healthcare and environment possible. We believe this approach is best for their ultimate well-being and retention of strong genes and instincts.
Our goats receive a daily ration of NON-GMO locally grown and produced feed from the Little Red Hen Farm & Feed Mill out of Rocky Mount VA, locally sourced hay and other forage/vegetable scraps as the seasons allow.
Our goat herd memebers consist of Mattaheus the buck who is descended from the French Heirloom Alpine line, a rarity to be found! His genetics differ from the American Alpine in that his offspring make for a better dual-purpose breed (meat & milk) given his distinctly larger & stockier build, whereas the common American Alpine is best suited for dairy production only.
Although his size and ginormous horns can seem intimidating, Matthaeus is a very sweet buck who loves a good game of chase the bucket and the occasional break-out of his male domicile.
Bridgid our very affectionate and expressive nanny is an American Alpine who produces beautifully colored and healthy kids! She is gentle and docile but likes to engage in occasional rough housing with her herd mate Esther. She has yet to get used to and comfortable with being milked. When not munching on hay, she can be found hanging out with her favorite friend and guardian Paddy the Great Pyrenees.
The star milker, Esther, is a sassy Saneen nanny who produces lovely sets of twins and heaps of pure white milk. Esther is particularly attentive and nurturing toward her kids. She has no insecurity in her being and can often be found bossing Bridgid around when not flirting with Matthaeus!
